Dunk Road Trip Day 7: Bryce Canyon

We drove through beautiful Bryce Canyon National Park on our way to Cedar City today. The main attractions in Bryce are the hoodoos, which are tall slender rock formations that are present by the thousands all over the park. We stopped at a roadside viewpoint and hiked down about 1/2 a mile into a canyon. The hoodoo views were amazing. It was only after we had finished the hike that we discovered we had accidentaly been hiking on a closed trail. No wonder it was so quiet and peaceful.

Dunk Road Trip Day 6: Driving to Provo

We spent the entire day driving from Jackson to Provo. There was a lot of car time and we suffered through rush hour traffic in Salt Lake City, but we did find a fun little rest stop in Idaho where we streched our legs. There was a large steep grassy hill which prompted many trips sliding and rolling down for Gracie and Alex. Rob even gave it a try! We also hiked on a little trail around some lava formations. Hot but fun.

Dunk Road Trip Day 5: Tetons and Jackson

We left Yellowstone early on our 5th day, and enjoyed a relaxing drive through the Grand Teton National Park. The Tetons are amazing mountains. They jut up out of the landscape without any foothills to mask the view of the peaks. In the late afternoon we arrived in Jackson, where we had a blast shopping for cowboy hats. We also enjoyed an old west show at the Jackson Playhouse, where the kids sat on horse saddles during dinner. Old west fun!

Dunk Road Trip Day 4: Yellowstone

I loved Yellowstone, from the white capped Big Horn mountains to the bubbling sulpher pools. Our first stop was the Buffalo Bill Dam, an unexpected little destination on the road towards Yellowstone. We spent the majority of the rest of the day driving through the eastern part of the park, stopping to climb on the snow covered mountains, to hike at a very cool waterfall, and to eat lunch at Lake Yellowstone Lodge. Our destination in the park was a little cabin 1/4 mile from Old Faithful. We faithfully watched Old Faithful spurt and took a two mile hike around the sulpher pits.
